Is Your Car Ready for Fall?
The End-of-Summer Maintenance Checklist
As the weather cools and the kids head back to school, most of us start settling into a new routine. But there’s one routine many Long Island drivers forget: getting your car ready for fall.
At Dr. Jack’s Auto Repair in Merrick, NY, we’ve seen what happens when summer wear-and-tear goes unchecked. That beach sand in your filters, the long weekend road trips, the AC running nonstop—it all adds up.
If you haven’t given your car a once-over lately, this is your sign.
Here’s our easy, no-nonsense checklist to help you prep your vehicle for the cooler months ahead.
1. Check Your Oil & Fluids
Cooler temps mean your engine needs to run cleaner and more efficiently. If you’ve delayed that oil change all summer, now’s the time.
We also recommend checking:
- Brake fluid
- Coolant/antifreeze
- Transmission fluid
- Windshield washer fluid (you’ll use more in the fall!)
💡 Diagnostics available upon request, including oil level, brake pad life, and more.
2. Replace Your Wiper Blades
Fall brings more rain, early morning mist, and windshield glare.
If your blades are streaking or skipping—get them replaced before the first cold snap.
3. Inspect Tires & Tread Depth
Summer heat and potholes can wear down tires unevenly.
With slippery leaves and early frost coming, you’ll need traction you can trust.
We'll inspect:
- Tread depth
- Uneven wear
- Tire pressure (cooler temps lower PSI)
- Rotate or recommend replacements if needed
4. Test the Battery
Dead batteries love cold mornings.
If your car was slow to start even once this summer, don’t ignore it.
We carry Interstate Batteries and can run a full test during your visit.
5. Cabin & Air Filters
All that summer dust, pollen, and beach debris? It's sitting in your filters.
- Engine air filters affect performance
- Cabin air filters affect your breathing
Let’s clear the air—literally.
6. Schedule a Full Inspection
If your vehicle hasn’t been checked out since spring, now’s the perfect time.
At Dr. Jack’s, we’re a Registered New York State Inspection Center offering:
- Seasonal maintenance checks
- Fast oil changes
- Free diagnostics upon request
No pressure. Just trusted advice from people who care.
